About Us

Brockton Uechi-ryu Karate Academy is a state of the art, clean, and fully equipped 3000 sq. ft. facility. We offer the finest Martial Arts training with individual attention for each student. Our academy has a friendly atmosphere. We have mothers and fathers training with their kids. All of our instructors are certified black belts in Uechi-ryu Karate Do. We have a 9th degree Hanshi Sei master, 7th degree Kyoshi master, a 6th degree Renshi master, a 5th degree and three 3rd degree instructors teaching at our academy.
Our academy trains students who are willing to be competitive and those that want to have the confidence it takes to become proficient in self-defense. Our junior students learn discipline, respect, and focus. Our training regiment will also help to keep you and your child in shape. We have two workout rooms (dojo) and two parent waiting areas with viewing windows into each dojo. Our main level waiting area has tables and a TV with WiFi to keep the parents and siblings comfortable and entertained while their children or parents are taking classes. We have men's and women's dressing rooms on our lower level with temporary use lockers to keep your valuables safe while you train. |

We are dedicated to providing the finest Martial Arts, Self-Defense and Personal Life Skills Training within a comprehensive program of personal development and safety! You and/or your child(ren) will be comfortable training with the other students in our school without the risk of being hurt or embarrassed! We will help you and/or your child(ren) feel more confident in dealing with bullies without becoming a bully! We strongly believe in serving each individual student and the specific needs he or she may have. Our instructors will keep you and or your children interested and motivated!
Our program will teach you the necessary curriculum to receive a certified black belt in the traditional karate style named Uechi-ryu. At our academy, you can train at your own pace. |
Our History |
We have been in business at this location since February of 2000. There are no other martial arts schools in Brockton that has been at their current location as long as us.
Len Testa is the founder of the Brockton Uechi-Ryu Karate Academy Inc. He began karate training in January 1980 at the Brockton Dojo of Mattson Academy of Karate under the direction of Grandmaster Robert Bethoney. After receiving the 1st degree rank of Shodan in 1983, Len taught Uechi-ryu Karate to thousands of children at various Brockton Community schools after school programs before opening the BUKA in February 2000. Len is now the 9th degree rank of Kyudan and 4th degree master rank of Hanshi Sei. He still teaches children, teens and adults of all ranks at BUKA. Many, of which, have received their black belts and are now instructors at BUKA. The BUKA is affiliated with Grandmaster Bethoney's Bushido Organization, Grandmaster George Mattson's International Uechi-ryu Karate Federation (IUKF), Uechi-ryu International, and Sadaneo Uechi of Uechiryu Karate Association in Okinawa Japan (SOKE). |
